The Bee’s Knees

by erin on November 6, 2015

I really really REALLY love crafty people who rise magnificently to a challenge.  I also really love crafty people who don’t even wait to the last minute to rise (magnificently) to said challenge.  People who crank out hats and drop them off at Yarns Etc, for instance, and keep coming back with more hats.  A lot of hats.  A stunning amount of hats.  With still a week to go to make and drop off hats, you have made…

359 HATS!!!  THREE HUNDRED FIFTY-NINE HATS!  This reminds me of the time you all donated enough yarn that was equivalent in weight to that of a polar bear.  It just kills me in the best way possible that you all are working so much to warm the heads of people in Nepal!  I can’t wait to see what these last few days will yield.  Anyone want to take bets on what the final total will be?  I think we’ll break 400–what do you think?  Do you think we can do it?

In other news, I have finished the bee mittens, and they are rather homey but cute, I think.

They pleased the person I knit them for, so I’m thrilled!

I knitted the thumbs in blue to suggest wings, but since you can’t just give a bee only one wing, I made a wee patch and sewed it on next to the thumb so the chubby bees can fly.  And of course bee mittens need eyes so they can see where they’re going.  I’m going to go sit down now and try to remember that they’re inanimate objects, but they are so cute on her!

I’m almost done with this poncho…only 47 more to go.  Kidding!!  Two more, and I’m still cranking ’em out.  Behold my artfully constructed pile of hand knit poncho:

It’s all just the bee’s knees, yo!  Let’s keep cranking out the hats, and keep being excellent crafty people, and I’ll see what our final total is before Dr. Berndt comes next week!  SOOOO Excited!!!
